Frequently Asked Questions
What is diamond certification?
Diamonds can be certified by a qualified gemologist who evaluates the stone for its Four C characteristics and carefully catalogs and categorizes each one. The certification will also take precise note of any flaws in the diamond and note their location. This certification should travel with the diamond whenever it changes hands, as it is a proof of its authenticity and identification.
Is buying diamonds online safe?
It can be very safe, through a pre-approved network such as ours. Check with your diamond seller's policy regarding returns, and shipment of their products. Your diamond should be shipped to you in an insured packet to cover against any loss or damage, and you should have the option to return or exchange the ring within a certain period of time if you are dissatisfied with it for any reason.
Is financing available?
Many online jewelers do offer their own financing options for you if you wish to buy a diamond ring from them. Be sure to read the terms and conditions of the financing agreement carefully before you accept, however.
Are there phony diamond sellers out there?
And plenty of them. Be wary when shopping and do your research, if you step outside of the qualified network available to you here at RealDiamondRings.net
What's the difference between a synthetic diamond and a real one?
For a well made synthetic? Absolutely nothing.
How can I tell between a fake diamond ring and a real one?
Believe it or not, price is going to be the first, key indicator. If someone is trying to sell you a 'real' diamond for next to nothing you need to think twice about buying it. It may be stolen (happens on a fairly regular basis), or, more likely, it is not a real diamond. It takes a trained eye to tell the difference between a fake (usually cubic zirconium) diamond and a real one, so if you are not certain you are dealing with a reputable seller of diamond rings, then use the network of sellers you can find right here on this site and be sure. If you can get your hands on a diamond before buying it, one way to tell if it is real is to hold it over some print and look through the diamond at it. A real diamond refracts so much light so well, you will not be able to see the text through it. A fake diamond will act more like a magnifying glass and you will be able to read the text.
Gold or Platinum; what's the difference?
Gold is a traditional setting for a real diamond ring. It is a beautiful, soft and valuable metal whose properties and resistance to tarnish make it an excellent setting for any type of ring, or necklace or other jewelry. Platinum, is unlike gold in that it is not nearly as soft, is silvery-white in color, it also does not tarnish, but it is about one hundred times more difficult to find and mine than gold so it is therefore much more expensive. When deciding whether to choose a platinum setting or gold setting for your real diamond rings, consider the complexion and skin tone of the person who will be wearing it. Gold tends to stand out much better on very fair skin than platinum will, and will nicely enhance a tan. Either gold or platinum works very well with dark skin colors.
